A classic case of the power of music ?
Came across this interesting article on how many young people are gravitating towards the classic old 60's and 70's artists rather than accepting the modern 'manufactured' bands.

I have had to create a new system for leaving comments since the old one relied on a third party provider (which was free, but it's offline at the moment, and this caused the main ED page not to load properly...).
So, all the old comments are gone I'm afraid, but the new system is completely reliable and also hosted on the same server so there will never be a problem again.
Yeah right....
Hope you're all digging the holidays!
I'm still desperately trying to find time to watch the Winterland DVD.
What did Santa bring you ?
Tell us about it on the deadboard

Happy Birthday Eurotraders
The Yahoo Group Eurotraders, which is basically the main means of group communication for Deadheads in Europe, is 4 years old on December 24th 2003.
The membership currently stands at 678 and the place is thriving. I started the list in '99 basically to establish a trading network here in the UK (with a view to spreading out to Europe too) and it's grown from there. Through the list, I've met many of the members in person and made several friends along the way. It remains the coolest, downright nicest group of it's type. Thanks to everyone who continues to make it work...
Oh and, er Happy Christmas too ;-)

New Year's shows - blogger wanted!
It's that time of year again, when deadheads party the New Year in over two nights of musical excitement. This year The Dead are accompanied by special guest stars The Funk Brothers, and Robert Hunter.
Are YOU going to these shows ?
Why not post a journal of your trip here, in this very blog for all to see ?
(It's as easy as sending a web-based email) If you're interested, please

Do you have any photos of Jerry ?
JerryGarcia.com are inviting people with good quality, previously unreleased photos to come forward.
If your photo ends up being used, you'd get royalties too, so perhaps it's time to start digging around in the attic...
More info here...

Site updates
I've been recreating the dead gallery in between bouts of Christmas shopping and inspirational flashes of DIY handyman workmanship.
I've also created some snazzy links to the most recent posts via the Deadboard, which show up on the index page of the site.
I'm still looking for interested parties to contribute to the content of this "BLOG". You could write about anything vaguely related to the main subject matter - the good ole grateful dead....

The Dead Gallery
The Dead Gallery was once a well visited part of this site until recently. Ambitiously, the Gallery housed hundreds, probably thousands of GD related pics. It started at 'A', and ran through to 'P', never to get any further before we lost the site as it once stood. In an attempt to present something different I have begun to reconstruct the gallery starting from Z and working backwards.... Have fun ;-)

String Cheese Incident
String Cheese Incident - Live at the Fillmore (2003)
The String Cheese Incident has garnered a reputation as one of today’s best live acts. Live at the Fillmore captures one of the band’s epic home-state performances from start to finish. Recorded March 23, 2002 at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, Colorado, the 2-disc DVD set features over 3 hours of MX Multiangle footage of the quintet performing such fan favorites as "Rivertrance," "Rollover," and "Land's End." The 16-song set list is offered up in bold Dolby 5.1 Surround and DTS 5.1 Surround sound (mixed at Skywalker Sound) and features special guest appearances by Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kruetzmann & bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs. Plus, avid fans will appreciate the "Red Lady Ball" bonus footage.

Jerry Hussein ?
"The ousted Iraqi dictator's scraggly gray beard and wild hair Sunday made him resemble the deceased Grateful Dead guitarist, Stecke said. He jokingly told his wife that "Jerry Hussein" was arrested." - from GreenvillOnline.com

Good to see your old self again, Alan - I like the new lay-out, although the font size could maybe raised slightly, waddayathink?
My wake-up call today is
Whilst I've been tinkering with the website tonight, my feet, shoulders, head, hands and pretty much my whole self has been grooving along to DP24 disc 2.
Very nice indeed!

Yes folks all blog posts now have titles to make the topics stand out a little easier.

i changed the template to make it simpler, as i am experimenting with using the output file as an SSI to be pulled into the main ED index page....
it may start to look weirder before it gets better.....
glad you're diggin it Joek! ;-)

I see, there is a cunning little plan behind the product range, & a well-thought out plan it is indeedy.
& now for my next lesson, I'll try & put some pictures in.
First things first:
BTW, Alan, if you read this - do you know anything about security in blogging, i.e. the dreaded 'mailto:' HTML tag luring all sorts of spammers into your mailbox? Yahoo! prevents this from happening, as you know, by partially encoding the addresses - I suppose that because in writing posts in this blog you can use HTML coding any 'mailto:' will show up in the coding.

Thongs, of all things Eurodead?
I'm going to try & create a link - if it doesn't work, I'll delete it straightaway.
For Alan's latest creative Eurodead shopping experience, go to http://www.cafeshops.com/eurodead.8913189
Now I can do the links as well - it's just like writing HTML. Great.

the errors were caused by the archiving part of the script - i had entered a path wrong so it couldn't find the right folder.
Of course, it only took me about an hour to actually find this out!

GOOD LUCK, Alan - if there's anything else I can do to help you out, let me know. I could try to create a list of ETers' e-mail addresses that I have, or whatever (the only thing is, I'm not that well into understanding various pieces of software, I usually rely on friends :-)

Progress report on the rebuild:
I have been re-installing a new Message Forum facility, and am currently attempting to import all of the old User ID's and posts from the deadboard into the new system.
It will be much the same, but with added functionality such as file uploads and custom avatars etc.
It will be located at http://www.eurodead.net/deadboard/ikonboard.cgi
It might take some time to get it looking nice, but at least it will work soon enough.
I also have plans to try to work out if i can include this blog text as a server side include or not. I may have to develop a template with the blog code embedded, or build the rest of the site around the blog code - not sure yet!
Wish me luck!

I realize now, Alan, that you've been working on this until the early hours of the morning - it's a pleasure to be involved in the conception of Eurodead.net v. 2 .
Hope you're still ill, so you have a bit more time to experiment with this :-) No, seriously, I do hope you're getting well soon.
Nice pic of you playing the geetar, is this at the Manchester preshow bash?
